I have a friend that is a retired teacher. She retired in 1998 and got a letter from her State pension fund that her pension will only be a 20 year payout. Therefore, her pension will stop after 2018. Don't depend solely on any government entity. Have multiple streams of income. Thankfully her and her husband prepared and are debt free.

Thanks for this! All my broke friends have mocked me over the years for renting an apartment still. But now I'm 100% DEBT FREE and just a few months shy of my six month emergency fund. Once that's done, gonna start seriously saving for a tiny home… or maybe an RV to live in full time. Renting is less work and a lot less stress of you move cities a lot!

Maybe at some point I'll buy a brick and mortar house, but right now, I'm not even the slightest bit interested in being tied down to a physical address or a mortgage.

I have no debt at all and I want to get out of my in-laws house but we only have 5k saved in the bank. I really want to build my first home, but I don't know where to start.
