    The issue with a pension is that if your company goes bankrupt or someone embezzles, there goes your pension plan. With a 401K or if you have your own IRA then if your company goes bankrupt, it doesn't directly affect your investments. So it is a real nice benefit that the company is doing that for their employers but it is not a replacement for a 401K, IRA or other investments.

    Unless market takes a big dump when he turns 51 years old. Sell stocks at the bottom to live off is not a good idea.

    but you cannot withdraw your money till age 59 so how can you retire at age 50
